So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” John 6: 12
The miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand is a well known passage of the New Testament. A boy’s tiffin became a blessiing in the hands of Jesus. Jesus took it, praised God, broke it and gave it to the disciples to distribute it to the crowds. While they got busy distributing, fragments began to accumulate unaware. Jesus looked at the leftovers and asked the disciples to pick them and collect them: twelve baskets full were gahtered.
This incident reveals to us about a subtle work of the enemy which is very rampant today: fragmentation. Just as Jesus delegated the distribution work to His disciples, who are symbolic to the church, we who are supposed to be a blessing in the world are being fragmented in our lives unaware and without control.
Our soul can be fragmented into pieces. We have mind, we have will, we have emotions, we have desires, we have appetities, we are sum total of many expressions that God has fearfully and wonderfullly made. But, instead of attacking an individualy straightaway, Satan has implemented fragmentation in the souls of the believers. Some have lost their mind to the Devil, some their desires, some their emotions and so on. We are broken into pieces. And we dont even know which part of our life needs deliverance. Jesus said, ‘gather the fragments.’ The psalmist says, ‘He restores my soul.’
God is gathering our pieces back into the fold. He needs us totally and not in pieces. Every ounce of our being is created for God’s pleasure. The prayer of apostle of Paul is the undeniable work of the Holy Spirit in the last days:
“May your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thess 5:23
