Better is a dry morsel with quietness,
Than a house full of feasting with strife. Pro 17:1
We live in a buzzy world. There is noise everywhere. For a long time, we have associated peace with stillness. The more the place is calm, the peaceful it is. We have lost the essence of peace that the Bible defines for us. Peace can be even in the storm. Noise does not cancel peace. Sometimes noise can be peaceful when our hearts are tuned to God.
Our dealings with people have been conflicting these days. We have a wide, opinionated culture where what people think doesn’t matter, and what the person thinks matters. The danger is that we are redefining everything according to our convenience. When something is conflicting within us, we have no ground of reference.
If we lose God’s Word as our reference tool, we will eventually end up confused and imbalanced in life. Feasting is not the sign of peace. Our inward motive and peace must drive our outward gatherings. Is God ruling in our hearts while we celebrate with our friends? Are we in tune with God’s righteousness while we enjoy partying around?
If quietness is not a virtue, we may lose mental balance. Jesus said, ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you (Jn 14:27). For Jesus, peace was a virtue. It is a Godly virtue. Peace can be imparted. Just like the nature of Christ, that can be imparted. He is loving, He is kind, He is caring, He is also peaceful.
We need to learn to function in this world with peace from within us. Our nature cannot be easily vulnerable to happenings around us. If we truly are connected with Jesus inside, His peaceful nature will flow through us all the time, even in a storm.
